Frans Slot (1909-1974) was trained as a ceramicist by the visual artist Chris Lanooy, subsequently working in Lanooy's company. After the second World War he established himself as an independent ceramist in his home city of Epe, the Netherlands. He tought a new generation of Dutch ceramists, including Fré Beerends, Johan Broekema , Theo Genemans, Laurens Goldewijk, Jan de Graaf, Nora Kretz, Hans van Riessen and Alex van de Wal.

Slot continued to live and work in Epe for the rest of his life, marrying  Lien Beijerman in  1948 and dying there in October 1974 at the age of 65.

In 2009, 100 years after Slots birth, a retrospective of his work was held in Epe.
